Tinselwood
Help with the Christmas town builder
Tallowick, keeper of the almanac, keeps this page too. Nobody else would.
Write to us
Something not working, a question, or a town you want to show somebody? Write, and a person will read it.
tinselwood@clacketyrock.comIf something went wrong, these help us put it right quickly:
- What happened, and what you were doing just before.
- Your computer's details. In the game, open Settings, go to About and press Copy system info, then paste it into your letter.
- The log file. Settings, About, Open log folder, and attach
tinselwood.log.
Your towns
Every town is saved on your computer as you play, and again when you quit. A copy of each is also put aside every time the game starts, so a town that goes wrong can be brought back.
- Towns: Settings, Saving, Open save folder. They live in
%APPDATA%\Tinselwood\saves - Backups: Settings, Saving, Open backups folder, in
%APPDATA%\Tinselwood\backups - Steam Cloud: Settings, Saving says whether it is on. When it is, your towns follow you to any computer you play on.
If a town will not open, do not delete anything. Write to us first: the backups can almost always bring it back.
If it runs slowly
- Open Settings, go to Graphics, and turn off Shadows, Ambient occlusion and Bloom. Those cost the most on an older graphics card.
- Set Smooth edges to Off and Resolution cap to 1080p. Both cost more the more pixels there are, so they help most on a big screen and on a laptop's built-in graphics.
- On a laptop with two graphics chips, Windows may start the game on the weaker one. Open Windows Settings, then System, Display, Graphics. Add Tinselwood and set it to High performance.
- Keep your graphics drivers up to date. The game needs a card that supports DirectX 11.
Sound, and stepping away
To keep the carols to the town's own window, Settings, Sound, In the background: Mute. Minimise the game and the town waits for you: nothing grows while it is out of the way.
